Description

You are the go-to person on your team for solving problems and training new hires. You love Java and want to grow the next generation of developers. You’ve thought about coaching or mentoring, but you are frustrated by the short-term, temporary nature of most roles.

If this describes you, Bloom Institute of Technology (BloomTech) has the perfect role for you! We’re looking for full-time, long-term Java professionals to lead our immersive, live, online curriculum teaching the hard and soft skills required to launch a new tech career. We are pioneering a new model of accessible higher education where the school invests in the students instead of the other way around. By deferring the tuition until students graduate and secure a job, we align ourselves with the success of our students.

We're committed to building a diverse team of staff and instructors where everyone feels seen, heard, and valued. Therefore, we welcome a diverse pool of applicants, including those from historically marginalized groups and non-traditional backgrounds who can appreciate the diverse student communities we aim to serve.

If you’re passionate about Java and eager to support new learners, apply today!

What you will be doing

  • Teaching daily live code-alongs via Zoom, explaining complex concepts simply, using real-life examples, exercises, and storytelling
  • Providing learner support, encouraging struggling learners and challenging those who are excelling
  • Providing curriculum feedback and reporting learner progress

What you will NOT be doing

  • Managing other instructors or teaching assistants
  • Merely tutoring students - your professional expertise forms the foundation of teaching the technical skills required for success in the real world.
  • Traveling for conferences, meetings, or trainings. We are a 100% remote team.

Key responsibilities

Help students unlock their potential, regardless of circumstance, and start a life-changing new career in tech.

Candidate requirements

  • Demonstrable understanding of Java programming language: Java Version 11, Gradle, TestNG, AWS DynamoDB
  • 3+ years of software development experience using Java in a hands-on environment
  • No teaching experience required!

What you will learn

The best way to learn something is to teach it! As you teach Java to brand-new beginner students, you will deepen your own understanding of the language and its application. You will also learn how to be an instructor, gauging student engagement and measuring their progress. If you aspire to teach professionally, this is a great training ground!
