Instructional Designer   $100,000 USD/year

Description

IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a full-time, in-person employee role located at our Austin, Texas campus.

Elite educators don't just teach—they transform. At Alpha Schools, we're redefining what K-8 students can achieve, with 8-year-olds confidently pitching business ideas to VCs and 10-year-olds delivering TED-worthy presentations. This isn't educational theory—it's our daily reality.

As our Instructional Designer, you'll harness cutting-edge AI to architect extraordinary learning experiences, test your innovations with actual students, and collaborate with education revolutionaries who refuse to accept conventional limitations. You'll transcend traditional curriculum development by focusing on practical life skills that prepare children for real-world success.

If you're ready to push the boundaries of educational possibility and equip the next generation with exceptional capabilities, Alpha Schools is your platform for impact.

What you will be doing

  • Architecting a comprehensive, evidence-based life skills curriculum for K-8 students that develops measurable competencies in public speaking, storytelling, entrepreneurship, and financial acumen
  • Engineering objective assessment systems using standardized methodologies to establish baselines, track progress, and verify mastery in non-traditional skill domains
  • Conducting rigorous field testing of workshop designs with students, executing structured observations, and systematically collecting student and parent feedback to drive iterative improvements
  • Advancing your expertise through disciplined research, best practice analysis, and trend forecasting to generate breakthrough educational approaches
  • Partnering with facilitators to ensure flawless workshop execution and consistent achievement of ambitious learning outcomes

What you will NOT be doing

  • Creating superficial activities that prioritize entertainment over measurable skill development
  • Designing curriculum that underestimates children's cognitive and performance capabilities
  • Producing theoretical content disconnected from practical, real-world applications
  • Developing passive learning experiences that fail to actively engage students
  • Constructing assessment frameworks focused on academic memorization rather than demonstrable skills

Key responsibilities

Create and continuously refine a transformative life skills curriculum that enables students to achieve extraordinary outcomes for their age, driving exceptional student progress and unparalleled parent satisfaction.

Candidate requirements

  • Physical presence at Alpha's Austin campus (non-negotiable)
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline
  • Minimum 1 year experience developing educational activities, workshops, or training programs
  • Demonstrated ability to gather and analyze qualitative feedback from program participants
  • Advanced proficiency with generative AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity) for independent execution
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship
