DevOps Engineer $60,000USD/year ($30 USD/hour)

Description

Are you ready to expand your infrastructure expertise while working across a diverse portfolio of products?

We're looking for a DevOps engineer who brings solid fundamentals and is eager to tackle increasingly complex technical challenges. You'll work with cutting-edge cloud technologies while growing into a technical leader.

Trilogy acquires and transforms software businesses using a powerful central platform and standardized cloud infrastructure. Our growing portfolio spans hundreds of products, from established enterprise software to innovative EdTech companies.

What Makes This Role Different

This isn't about maintaining a single system or following established playbooks. You'll work with diverse infrastructure across multiple products, learning to diagnose issues and implement improvements. With mentorship from senior engineers, you'll develop the skills to own significant infrastructure initiatives and drive technical decisions.

Why You'll Love This Role

  • Tackle meaningful technical challenges with support when you need it
  • Build and operate across multiple products and technology stacks
  • Implement infrastructure improvements that drive system reliability
  • Learn from experienced engineers while growing your decision-making authority
  • Work in an environment that values initiative and creative problem-solving

Why You Might Not

We want to be upfront - this role isn't for everyone. You won't succeed here if you:

  • Prefer to stick to familiar technology rather than expanding your expertise
  • Want to focus solely on greenfield projects
  • Are uncomfortable working with multiple technical stacks
  • Need detailed instructions rather than general direction

If you're excited to expand your DevOps expertise across diverse technical challenges while working with a team that will invest in your growth, we want to talk to you.

What you will be doing

  • Help evolve our AWS infrastructure by implementing best practices and automation
  • Design and implement monitoring solutions with guidance from senior engineers
  • Build tools and automation to improve reliability
  • Investigate and resolve infrastructure issues across diverse systems
  • Contribute to infrastructure improvements during product acquisitions

What you will NOT be doing

  • Getting stuck in routine maintenance - you'll drive real improvements
  • Working in isolation - you'll have support while taking ownership
  • Being restricted to basic tasks - you'll take on complex challenges
  • Following rigid procedures - you'll learn to develop creative solutions

Key responsibilities

Support and enhance cloud infrastructure reliability across our growing product portfolio through implementation of monitoring, automation, and AWS best practices, while developing deeper technical expertise.

Candidate requirements

  • Proven experience with AWS infrastructure and services (this is our primary platform - other cloud experience alone won't cut it)
  • Strong programming skills in Python/JavaScript for building automation and tooling
  • Production experience with Kubernetes
  • Track record of implementing monitoring solutions
  • Experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Strong Linux systems administration skills

Nice to have

Experience in these areas will make your application stand out. Don't have them? Don't let that stop you from applying. As long as you meet the core requirements above, we want to talk to you!

  • Experience with Serverless technologies
  • Familiarity with CloudFormation
  • Success using AI tools for workflow optimization

About Crossover

What you will learn

  • Master AWS infrastructure at scale by working across diverse products and technical stacks
  • Develop expertise in cloud infrastructure standardization through hands-on experience with acquisitions
  • Build advanced monitoring and automation skills while implementing solutions across multiple systems
  • Gain real-world experience with infrastructure tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes in production environments
  • Learn systematic approaches to diagnosing and improving complex inherited systems
  • Develop technical leadership skills as you take on increasing ownership of infrastructure initiatives

This role emphasizes learning through hands-on experience and mentorship rather than formal training programs. Growth comes from tackling real technical challenges across our diverse portfolio with support from senior engineers.

Work examples

We do things differently than the rest of the world. Unlike other DevOps roles, here's what you can expect:

You'll be thrown into the exciting challenge of integrating newly acquired products into our central platform - each bringing its own unique infrastructure puzzle. While most DevOps engineers maintain a single system, you'll dive deep into diverse inherited systems, learn how they tick, and transform them to meet our high reliability standards. You won't just follow playbooks - you'll build automation that works across multiple products, implement monitoring that spots issues before they impact customers, and drive infrastructure improvements that scale. And the best part? When you identify something that needs fixing, you have the authority to make it happen without getting stuck in approval chains. Every week brings new technical challenges as we acquire and transform more products.
