Solutions Architect $100,000USD/year ($50 USD/hour)

Description

Do you thrive on unraveling the complexities of infrastructure and improving them systematically? Are you the problem-solver everyone turns to for tackling intricate technical challenges independently?

We seek DevOps professionals passionate about both creation and operation, capable of diagnosing legacy systems today and crafting sophisticated automation solutions tomorrow. This position allows you to make impactful technical decisions and enhance infrastructure across a dynamic product range.

What Sets this Position Apart?

This isn't about maintaining a single, documented system or adhering to fixed playbooks. You will be the technical sleuth delving into varied inherited infrastructures, gaining deep insights, and executing systematic enhancements. You'll have the power to standardize and refine our AWS ecosystem while ensuring high availability for multiple products and tech stacks.

Why You'll Adore this Role

  • Freedom to tackle complex technical issues in your unique way
  • A blend of building (automation, tools) and operating (troubleshooting, enhancements)
  • Authority to make crucial architectural decisions impacting system reliability
  • Opportunity to transform chaos into order by standardizing diverse systems
  • An environment that cherishes independence and innovative problem-solving

Why You Might Not

Let's be clear - this role isn't for everyone. You might not thrive here if you:

  • Require extensive guidance to navigate challenges
  • Prefer focusing only on new projects with clean tech stacks
  • Feel uneasy managing multiple inherited systems and tech stacks
  • Favor a narrow technical focus over broad infrastructure responsibilities

If the prospect of engineering excellence in complex infrastructures excites you, and you have the skills to support it, we want to connect with you.

What you will be doing

  • Lead and develop our AWS infrastructure, applying best practices and automation
  • Design and deploy monitoring solutions for comprehensive visibility into multifaceted systems
  • Create tools and automation to enhance reliability and minimize operational costs
  • Delve into inherited systems during acquisitions, grasp their intricacies, and drive improvements
  • Independently solve challenging infrastructure problems, employing creative solutions when standard methods fall short

What you will NOT be doing

  • Spending your days in Jira or constant status meetings - we appreciate individuals who proactively solve, not just track issues
  • Maintaining outdated systems indefinitely - you'll be empowered to drive significant improvements
  • Being hindered by bureaucratic approval processes - you'll have the authority to swiftly execute fixes for incident resolution
  • Getting confined to narrow technical areas - this role demands both broad and deep expertise
  • Struggling for budget to implement vital improvements - we recognize the significance of infrastructure investments

Key responsibilities

Enhance reliability and standardization of cloud infrastructure across our expanding product suite by implementing solid monitoring, automation, and AWS best practices.

Candidate requirements

  • Profound AWS infrastructure knowledge (our primary platform - experience with other clouds alone is insufficient)
  • Strong programming abilities in Python/JavaScript for creating automation and tools
  • Extensive experience with Kubernetes in production settings
  • Proven track record of implementing comprehensive monitoring solutions
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Expertise in Linux systems administration
  • Ability to manage on-call responsibilities and rapid troubleshooting as part of the routine workweek
