Senior DevOps Engineer $100,000USD/year ($50 USD/hour)

Description

Do you thrive on unraveling intricate infrastructure challenges and elevating systems to new heights? Are you proud of your ability to independently solve complex technical puzzles while becoming the go-to expert?

We're on the hunt for DevOps specialists who excel in both constructing and managing systems. If diagnosing legacy system issues one day and creating sophisticated automation solutions the next excites you, this role offers the chance to make impactful technical choices and enhance our expanding suite of products.

What Sets This Role Apart?

This isn't about managing a single, straightforward system or adhering to predefined playbooks. You'll be the technical sleuth, delving into varied inherited infrastructure, grasping it fully, and implementing thoughtful enhancements. You'll have the autonomy to standardize and optimize our AWS infrastructure, ensuring high availability across diverse products and technical frameworks.

Why You'll Enjoy This Role

  • Freedom to tackle complex technical challenges in your own unique way
  • Engage in both creation (automation, tooling) and operation (troubleshooting, improvements)
  • Influence critical architectural decisions that enhance system reliability
  • Bring structure to complexity by standardizing disparate systems
  • A work culture that values independence and inventive problem-solving

Why You Might Not

Let's be clear - this role may not suit everyone. You may struggle if you:

  • Require extensive guidance to navigate obstacles
  • Desire to work solely on new projects with pristine technical stacks
  • Are uneasy managing multiple inherited systems and tech stacks
  • Favor a narrow technical focus over broad infrastructure responsibility

If you're eager to infuse engineering excellence into complex infrastructure and have the skills to back it up, let's connect.

What you will be doing

  • Take ownership and evolve our AWS infrastructure by implementing best practices and automation
  • Craft and deploy monitoring solutions that offer true visibility into intricate systems
  • Create tools and automation to boost reliability and minimize operational burden
  • Explore inherited systems during acquisitions, develop insights, and spearhead improvements
  • Address challenging infrastructure issues independently, devising innovative solutions when standard methods fall short

What you will NOT be doing

  • Spending endless hours in Jira or status meetings - we value those who drive solutions, not just track issues
  • Maintaining outdated systems indefinitely - you'll be empowered to drive meaningful enhancements
  • Being hindered by bureaucratic approval processes - you'll have the authority to implement immediate fixes to resolve incidents
  • Getting confined to narrow technical silos - this role demands both breadth and depth of expertise
  • Struggling for budget to implement critical improvements - we recognize the importance of investing in infrastructure

Key responsibilities

Lead efforts to enhance the reliability and standardization of cloud infrastructure across our expanding product suite by implementing comprehensive monitoring, automation, and AWS best practices.

Candidate requirements

  • Extensive expertise in AWS infrastructure (this is our primary platform - experience with other clouds alone won't suffice)
  • Strong programming skills in Python/JavaScript for developing automation and tools
  • Significant Kubernetes experience in production environments
  • Proven track record of implementing comprehensive monitoring solutions
  • Experience with infrastructure automation tools (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Proficiency in Linux systems administration
  • Ability to manage on-call responsibilities and swiftly troubleshoot as part of the regular workweek
