Cloud Architect $100,000USD/year ($50 USD/hour)

Description

Are you energized by the challenge of diving deep into complex infrastructure, understanding how things really work, and systematically improving them? Do you take pride in being the go-to person who can untangle and solve thorny technical problems independently?

We're looking for DevOps pros who thrive on both building and operating - someone who can diagnose issues in inherited systems one day and architect elegant automation solutions the next. This role offers the freedom to make meaningful technical decisions and drive infrastructure improvements across our growing portfolio of products.

What Makes this Role Different?

This isn't about maintaining a single, well-documented system or following established playbooks. You'll be the technical detective who digs into diverse inherited infrastructure, understands it deeply, and implements systematic improvements. You'll have broad authority to standardize and optimize our AWS infrastructure while ensuring high availability across multiple products and technical stacks.

Why You'll Love this Role

  • Autonomy to solve complex technical challenges your way
  • Opportunity to both build (automation, tooling) and operate (troubleshooting, improvements)
  • Authority to make meaningful architectural decisions that impact system reliability
  • Chance to bring order to chaos by standardizing diverse systems
  • An environment that values independence and creative problem-solving

Why You Might Not

We want to be upfront - this role isn't for everyone. You won't succeed here if you:

  • Need extensive guidance to overcome roadblocks
  • Want to focus solely on greenfield projects with clean technical stacks
  • Are uncomfortable juggling multiple inherited systems and tech stacks
  • Prefer a narrow technical focus over broad infrastructure responsibility

If you're excited by the challenge of bringing engineering excellence to complex infrastructure and have the technical chops to back it up, we want to talk to you.

What you will be doing

  • Own and evolve our AWS infrastructure, implementing best practices and automation
  • Design and implement monitoring solutions that provide real visibility into complex systems
  • Build tools and automation to improve reliability and reduce operational overhead
  • Dive deep into inherited systems during acquisitions, develop understanding, and drive improvements
  • Tackle challenging infrastructure issues independently, finding creative solutions when standard approaches don't fit

What you will NOT be doing

  • Living in Jira and endless status meetings - we value people who can drive solutions, not just track problems
  • Maintaining outdated systems indefinitely - you'll be empowered to drive meaningful improvements
  • Being blocked by bureaucratic approval chains - you'll have the authority to execute immediate fixes to resolve incidents
  • Getting stuck in narrow technical silos - this role requires both breadth and depth of expertise
  • Fighting for budget to implement critical improvements - we understand the importance of infrastructure investment

Key responsibilities

Drive reliability and standardization of cloud infrastructure across our growing product portfolio by implementing robust monitoring, automation, and AWS best practices.

Candidate requirements

  • Deep AWS infrastructure expertise (this is our primary platform - other cloud experience alone won't cut it)
  • Strong programming skills in Python/JavaScript for building automation and tooling
  • Extensive Kubernetes experience in production environments
  • Track record of implementing comprehensive monitoring solutions
  • Experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform, Ansible)
  • Linux systems administration expertise
  • Capability to handle on-call responsibilities and rapid troubleshooting as part of the standard workweek
