Have you ever met someone in your remote team? Andrew meets Dragos, a long-time remote colleague and VP of Software Engineering at Crossover, in his home country of Romania.
Hey, Welcome Back!
Ever wanted to meet someone on your remote team in person?
As remote workers, we spend a lot of our career with rich relationships online. Colleagues we chat with every day are dispersed all over the globe.
So, we learn to connect and share jokes, common interests and non-work related conversation in the virtual space.
Still, one of the most challenging parts of being in a remote team is making (and maintaining) strong social connections.
😊 On the one hand we get to travel and work asynchronously, which makes us happier and more productive.
🤝 On the other, we rarely get a chance to shake the hand of a team member.
✨ Then sometimes – like today – we do. ✨
I’m in the beautiful land of Romania this week – navigating boat crashes, bloodthirsty mosquito swarms and remote work folklore.
I’m here to meet with a man I’ve worked with every day for two years but have never met in person. The man, the myth, the legend: Dragos Nuta, Crossover’s very own VP of Software Engineering.
He just happens to live mere hours away from Dracula’s castle – but it’s completely safe, I’m told. 🧛🏻🪦🏰
Today, Dragos shares a legend tale with me straight out of a story book.
It’s episode 41 and I’m in Bucharest to hear about Dragos life as an extremely successful remote worker, in a city that wasn’t always an easy place to live.
Explore Dragos’ unique stories on the ups and downs of fatherhood, building a hamster maze, and reminiscing about Romania’s shift from a communist to a democratic country.
📽️ This Week on Episode 41:
🤑 Hear about Dragos rise from $100.00pm to working at Crossover
🛶 Join me on a boat ride through Comana (and some bullrushes)
👨💻 Feast on facts about Romania’s ascent to remote-work acceptance
🦟 See Dragos and I beat a bloodthirsty swarm of mosquitos
🪞 Enjoy reflections about remote work from a 7-year veteran
Experts say remote team members only need to see each other once a year. Meeting Dragos was a great way to deepen a relationship with a remote colleague.
Sink your teeth into this episode to discover what remote work life is like in Romania. If you’re lucky, you’ll see your future, and fall under remote work’s hypnotic spell.
Enjoy this bite-sized adventure!
